Select Plant Australia Indigenous Youth Education Fund
The Select Plant Australia Indigenous Youth Education Fund has been established to honour the life and legacy of Nathan Mitschuinig, a proud Wiradjuri man and former Business Unit Leader who passed away in 2024.
Honouring Nathan's Vision
Nathan Mitschuinig believed in the potential of young Indigenous Australians and the power of education to change lives. This fund brings his vision to life by supporting First Nations youth from disadvantaged backgrounds as they navigate their educational journey and transition into employment, ultimately driving positive outcomes and sustainable growth within Indigenous communities.
Our Commitment
Our aim is to be recognised leaders in delivering safe, sustainable and innovative plant and solutions across Australia; however, our commitment extends far beyond the worksite. We're dedicated to strengthening the communities we serve and helping shape a brighter future for all Australians.
The Indigenous Youth Education Fund embodies Nathan's vision and reflects our core values. Through focused, manageable initiatives, we're building a foundation for lasting growth and meaningful impact in First Nations communities.
Partnership for Lasting Impact
We believe in the power of collaboration. Select partners with organisations that share our commitment to supporting First Nations youth and fostering positive community outcomes through initiatives that create meaningful change and expand their impact over time.
Our key partnership is with Bandu, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting Indigenous students as they transition from high school into tertiary education and employment. To provide the well-being support, resources, and career readiness programs that First Nations youth need to thrive.
This partnership delivers long-term, meaningful outcomes through comprehensive support across four key areas:
- Accommodation: Provide culturally safe housing for First Nations uni students and apprentices.
- Education: Removing barriers to tertiary and trade education opportunities
- Employment: Creating real-world career pathways through mentoring, industry experience days, and job placements
- Community: Fostering cultural identity and social connection through cultural events and community engagement
Active Industry Engagement
Our commitment goes beyond funding, with team members actively participating through mentoring sessions, experience days, and cultural engagement activities. This direct involvement creates genuine, long-term opportunities for First Nations youth while building meaningful bridges to sustainable careers and contributing to reconciliation through shared understanding and mutual respect.
Investing in the Future
This fund represents a long-term investment in education, community strength, and future-ready Indigenous leadership. We're committed to creating pathways that honour Nathan's memory while building a stronger, more inclusive future for all.
