Select Deploys Western Australia’s First 250t Electric Crawler Crane on Major Infrastructure Project
26 May 2025: Select Plant Australia has deployed Western Australia’s first 250 tonne Electric Crawler Crane on the Swan River Crossings project in Fremantle. The crane brings zero-emission lifting for the major infrastructure project.
The Liebherr LR1250.1 Unplugged 250 tonne Electric Crawler Crane offers the same lifting performance as conventional diesel models but operates with zero emissions. Its battery-powered system reduces fuel use, lowers maintenance costs and significantly decreases noise on site - key advantages for urban construction environments.
This is the first time one of Select’s electric cranes has been used in Western Australia. The deployment supports the project’s goal to minimise environmental impacts and manage operational noise in a densely populated area.
The cranes were the first of their kind to be purchased for the Australian construction sector. Their introduction forms part of Select Plant Australia's broader strategy to support more sustainable construction practices.
Ruairi Mawn, Business Unit Leader at Select Plant Australia, said the move aligns with industry efforts to reduce carbon emissions.
“These cranes are a practical solution for clients looking to decarbonise without compromising capability,” Mawn said,
“We’re committed to helping our clients meet sustainability goals by offering innovative plant and solutions.”
The crane will remain on site to support heavy lifting operations throughout key phases of the Swan River Crossing works.
